What is the best motion sensor? We have the ideal equipment for you!

The motion sensors are devices that increase safety and reduce energy consumption. However, there are several types of sensors, indicated for different purposes and objectives. In today's article, we leave you with three suggestions: a motion sensor with alarm, built-in and arduino.

How does a motion sensor work?

Once installed, the motion sensor detects a presence or a variation in the environment in which it is installed.

Most motion sensors work using infrared technology, that is, when someone passes a motion sensor, their presence is detected because there is a change in temperature, a variation in energy of the surrounding space.

Why install motion sensors

A motion sensor is especially useful in a hallway, on stairs, in a garage, on a gate or even in the garden. Wherever it is, when a motion sensor detects a presence, the lights come on.

This is advantageous for two main reasons: security and savings. Safety because it prevents you from having to walk in the dark to reach and turn on a switch, reducing the risk of shocks or falls. Savings because by turning on the lights only when someone is present in a space, you will be saving electricity and thus some money at the end of the month. In general, motion sensors have a very advantageous cost-benefit ratio for the user.

In addition, motion sensors provide an aesthetically pleasing and comfortable environment and the wide variety of equipment makes it relatively easy to find a model for a specific space and purpose.

In practice, as with many other equipment, there is no better product than another, only one that better responds to certain needs. Let's look at three different motion sensors: with alarm, built-in and arduino.

Motion sensor with alarm and command

A motion sensor with alarm is a safe and economical option and the model we suggest also includes a remote. The Chocon brand motion sensor has an action angle of 90º and, when it detects movement, it triggers a siren with 110 dB. With the remote, you can turn the equipment on and off.

Built-in Motion Sensor

if you are looking for a built-in motion sensor, the Es-p14 model is of interest to you. With an action angle of 180º, 10 seconds to 7 minutes and 10 to 2000 lux, this built-in motion sensor detects up to 8 meters.

Arduino motion sensor

The Velleman brand arduino motion sensor allows it to detect human movement inside or outside its detection area. See some of its features:

  • Voltage: 5 VDC

  • Connection: 3 pins: GND, VCC e OUT

  • Adjustments: sensitivity and delay (by regulator)

  • Standby time: 0.3 to 18 seconds

  • Maximum sensor distance: 7 meters

  • Detection angle: 120°
