The thing is, you have doubts: you don't know which one to choose or even how to program a universal TV remote. A headache… We'll explain everything below!
How does a universal television remote work?
Most commands come with a code list included in their programming or configuration instructions.
However, if you don't have these instructions or don't like the programming by code methodology, there are alternative ways to configure.
How to program a universal TV remote by code
Universal controls, namely television controls, are able to connect to different equipment thanks to a numerical code from each manufacturer (and sometimes type of device).
These codes are used to identify the infrared frequency the device receives, synchronizing the controller on the same frequency to make it work simultaneously.
Thus, most universal TV commands come with instructions and code listing. In case of Universal Remote Jolly ,for example, you will find programming instructions on page 15 of the respective manual.

Consult the list of brands of the equipment to be associated with the remote control. Then press the key corresponding to the device until the LED flashes briefly. Press and hold the ON/OFF and MUTE keys until the LED is lit again. Finally, enter the previously consulted numerical code, which should make the LED flash twice. Tests the correct functioning and, if any function is missing, tests the following code.
Don't have the instruction manual with you? Search online! There are several code listings available to support you in programming.
Programming by automatic search
Most remotes have a search button (next to ON/OFF) that will automatically search for the correct frequency of the nearest device.
If the equipment to be controlled is switched on, the remote will keep a steady light while searching for the correct infrared frequency.
If the synchronization is done correctly, the code will be stored and the command will work perfectly!
Alternatively, you can follow these steps:
- Turn on the television to which you want to associate/program the remote;
- On the remote control, press the button for the TV equipment (in the case of universal controls for several devices, you can find buttons such as TV1, TV2, Aux, Sat, DVD, etc.);
- Press the SET button for a few seconds to enter programming mode.
- Some universal TV remotes may require you to press two buttons at the same time, such as TV1 + Mute;
- Press the ON/OFF button intermittently so that this instruction is sent to the device. The command LED should flash;
- When the television turns off, press the OK button to memorize.
Exceptions aside, these steps work to program a universal command without resorting to codes!
